VEILBREAK Vertical Slice: Locking Combat, Roles, and Yokai Pressure

VEILBREAK is moving deeper into vertical-slice territory as combat readability, class identity, and yokai encounter pressure become the core focus.

VEILBREAK has reached the stage where broad vision has to become playable proof. The current push is all about turning the big ideas — dual-reality shifting, class roles, and yokai threat variety — into a vertical slice that immediately communicates the game's identity. ## Current Focus The biggest goal right now is combat feel. Weapons need to read clearly, movement has to support aggressive decision-making, and each class has to feel meaningfully different in a squad context. At the same time, yokai enemies are being treated as more than just interchangeable targets. Their behaviors need to create pressure, force repositioning, and support the supernatural tone instead of feeling like generic shooter AI. ## Why This Stage Matters A vertical slice isn't about proving everything. It's about proving the promise. If the player can feel the tension of a mission, understand their role in the squad, and recognize the threat of a veil-shifted encounter, the rest of the roadmap has something solid to build on. ## What's Next The immediate next steps are tightening encounter pacing, improving readability in the moment-to-moment action, and making sure the veil mechanic feels central rather than decorative. Once that is solid, the rest of the mission loop has a much stronger foundation.
